With the current credit crunch in full swing more and more people are having to turn to cash payday loans to get through each month, but is this a good idea? Before this question can be answered you need to know exactly what cash payday loans are, why they are necessary and what their pros and cons are...so read on and decide whether they're a good idea or not for yourself. This type of loan is aimed at people who, for one reason or another, are struggling to make ends meet in the short term. This may be because of an emergency expenditure that came unexpectedly or because of ill health that causes time off work. Whatever the reason though, cash payday loans are available to get you through to your next pay day.

The way in which most cash payday loans work is as follows. You apply for a small loan - generally between £50 and £750 - and on acceptance the money is transferred directly into your bank account within 12-24 hours. Then on your next pay day from your job, the payday loan lender debits your bank account of the full loan amount plus the cost of their fees. Once the debt is settled then that is that.

The Good Points of Fast Cash Payday Loans

As mentioned above, cash payday loans allow you virtually instant access to a cash supply and in the case of a real emergency this form of finance can be a life saver. Some companies will allow you to borrow in excess of £750 however you will need to prove that you can easily pay the loan amount back plus the fees that the company charge in place of interest.

Another good point is that most people are accepted for this form of loan. This is because cash payday loan companies don't perform credit checks before lending money and so a poor credit rating isn't held against you. Most lenders simply want to know that you are a UK citizen, that you're over 18 years of age, that you are in permanent, full time employment, that you're paid weekly or monthly and that you hold a UK current account - if you can prove these details then you are eligible for a cash payday loan.

The Bad Points of Cash Payday Loans

The worst aspect of cash payday loans is undoubtedly the fees that are charged on the money borrowed. Because most loans of this type are only in effect for 3-4 weeks maximum it doesn't make financial sense to the lender to charge interest, and so they charge fees instead. In general you will be expected to pay £25 for every £100 you borrow so a £750 loan will cost you an additional £187.50 to pay back. These high charges are implemented for two reasons: firstly because the loan is literally 'fast cash' and you can often have the money you need within hours of applying, and secondly because the payday loan companies know that most of the people who apply have no other choice i.e. they have poor credit histories and can't get accepted for a regular unsecured bank loan.

Another bad point with regards to cash payday loans is that try to debit your bank account on a specified date regardless of whether the money to pay the debt is there or not. This means that if you are short and the direct debit request is denied, you'll incur a charge from your bank as well as the payday loan lender. Unfortunately a lot of people fall into this trap and find that they never fully pay off their payday loan because of the high default charges.

So are Cash Payday Loans a Good Idea?

The answer to this question depends to a large extent on how desperately you need a quick injection of cash, how much you need to borrow and how confident you are that you can repay the loan amount and the fees on your next pay day. If you have any doubts as to your ability to pay the debt in full then you should try to look for an alternative - as a missed payment can easily start a downwards spiral that you can't gain control of.

Saying that, cash payday loans are an acceptable short term solution to money worries, especially when an emergency arises that your day to day finances can't cope with. Only borrow as much as you need though and always keep in mind that the loan plus the fees has to be repaid out of your next wage packet.

So, hopefully now you can make a decision as to whether fast cash payday loans are a good idea of not. At the end of the day everyone has their own opinion and it is down to you to decide for yourself.
